Bruce L. Miller, MD, is Professor of Neurology at the University of California, San Francisco
(UCSF). He also serves as Medical Director for the John Douglas French Alzheimer’s Foundation
and Trustee for the Elan Neuroscience Foundation. Prior to his current position at UCSF,
Dr Miller was Professor of Neurology at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA),
and AW & Mary Margaret Clausen Distinguished Chair and Professor of Neurology at UCSF.
Dr Miller earned his MD in Vancouver, British Columbia. He then completed a 2-year internal
medicine residency at Vancouver General Hospital, a 1-year neurology residency at the
University of Western Ontario, and a 2-year neurology residency at Harbor-UCLA Medical
Center. He was a fellow in neurobehavior and in pharmacology, both at UCLA. In January 1985,
Dr Miller received his board certification in neurology from the American Board of Psychiatry
and Neurology.
Dr Miller has been the recipient of many awards, including the Cornelius Mitchell Award
(neuroscience) in 1979, the UCLA Neurobehavior Fellowship Research Award in 1995, and the
Golden Toe Award for Neurology Residency Teaching in 2000. He is an editor of Neurocase,
a member of the editorial board for Research and Practice in Alzheimer’s Disease, and ad
hoc reviewer for many journals, including Journal of the American Geriatrics Society,
Neurology, and the International Journal of Geropsychiatry.
Dr Miller delivered a plenary lecture at the American Academy of Neurology in 2003.
He has given lectures on Alzheimer’s disease and dementia for more than 15 years and has
published over 190 articles, reviews, and chapters in both journals and books.
