Carol F. Lippa, MD, is Director of the Memory Disorders Program, Dementia Research
Laboratory, and Neurology Brain, Blood and CSF Bank, as well as Professor of Neurology, at
the Drexel University College of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Dr Lippa earned her MD from the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester,
Massachusetts. She completed her internship in the Department of Medicine at St. Vincent
Hospital and her residency at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center, both in
Worcester.
Dr Lippa does extensive editorial work, serving as a reviewer of manuscripts for over 20
journals. She also serves on the editorial boards for Neurology and the American Journal of
Alzheimer’s Disease and Other Dementias. She is a member of several professional
organizations, including the American Neurological Association, the American Association
of Neuropathologists, the Society for Neuroscience, and the American Academy of Neurology,
as well as Co-Editor-in-Chief of the American Journal of Alzheimer’s Disease and Other
Dementias. Dr Lippa has written numerous abstracts, articles, and book chapters, and has
written numerous papers on the subject of developing diagnostic criteria for brain diseases
that affect thinking.
Dr Lippa’s research addresses the clinicopathological mechanisms underlying neuronal death
in neurodegenerative diseases, with a primary focus on the characterization of abnormal
proteins in Alzheimer’s disease and related types of dementia including Pick’s disease and
Lewy body disease. Her clinical research also includes investigating methods of restoring
or maintaining memory and thinking abilities in patients with CNS diseases.
