Philip B. Gorelick, MD, MPH, FACP, is Professor of Neurological Sciences and Professor of Neurosurgery at Rush Medical College in Chicago, Illinois. Dr Gorelick previously held the post of Associate Professor of Neurological Sciences at Rush Medical College. Prior to his position at Rush, he held the positions of Associate Professor of Epidemiology and Biometry for the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois; Associate Professor of Neurology and Assistant Professor of Neurology, both at the University of Chicago Pritzker School of Medicine; and several postings with the University of Illinois College of Medicine.

Dr Gorelick earned his MD at Loyola University’s Stritch School of Medicine in Maywood, Illinois. In 1978, he completed first his internship in Internal Medicine at the University of Illinois Medical Center in Chicago, then his stroke fellowship training at Michael Reese Hospital and Medical Center in 1982. He earned his board certification in Neurology in November of the same year. Dr Gorelick subsequently earned his Master of Public Health in Epidemiology and Biometry from the School of Public Health at the University of Illinois in 1988.

Dr Gorelick has earned many awards throughout his career, including the Raymond B. Allen Instructorship Award from the University of Illinois Medical School Graduating Class of 1984, the National Stroke Association Visionary in Practice Society in 2000, the Deborah R. and Edgar D. Jannotta Endowed Professorship each year since 2001, and the Castle Connelly Medical Ltd Top Doctors: Chicago Metro Area in 2001.

Dr Gorelick has published over 150 journal articles and more than 40 books, chapters, and reviews. His abstracts and articles have been published in journals such as Lancet, Neuroepidemiology, Stroke, the American Journal of Geriatrics, and JAMA. In addition to his research and teaching interests, Dr Gorelick is a frequent public speaker, a member of many professional societies and associations, a member of the American College of Physicians, and a manuscript reviewer for New England Journal of Medicine, Lancet, Neurology, Stroke, and The Neurologist. He is currently on the editorial board of Stroke, Current Controlled Trials in Cardiovascular Medicine, and Seminars in Stroke and Cerebrovascular Diseases.
