Davangere P. Devanand, MD, is Professor of Clinical Psychiatry and Neurology and Deputy Chief of the Department of Biological Psychiatry at Columbia University College of Physicians and Surgeons in New York, New York. Additionally, Dr Devanand is Co-Director of the Memory Disorders Center and Co-Director of the Late-Life Depression Clinic at New York State Psychiatric Institute in New York City.

Dr Devanand received his medical degree from Christian Medical College in Vellore, India. He performed his residency in psychiatry at the National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences in Bangalore, India, and subsequently at Syracuse Upstate Medical Center and Yale University School of Medicine, where he served as Chief Resident at Yale-New Haven Hospital.

Dr Devanand is the recipient of several fellowships and honors, including the Bayer AG research award from the International Psychogeriatrics Association, the Scientific Award from the Indo-American Psychiatric Association and the Independent Investigator Award from the National Alliance for Research in Schizophrenia and Depression.

Dr Devanand has been the Principal Investigator on several research grants from the National Institute on Aging and the National Institute of Mental Health. He has authored or co-authored over 150 journal articles and book chapters, as well as 3 books. He is on the editorial board for the Journal of Gerontology. He is a reviewer for several journals including JAMA, Archives of General Psychiatry, and the American Journal of Geriatric Psychiatry.

Dr Devanand's memberships in professional organizations include the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry, the American College of Neuropsychopharmacology, and the Society of Biological Psychiatry.
