Jeffrey L. Cummings, MD, is Augustus S. Rose Professor of Neurology and Professor of
Psychiatry and Biobehavioral Sciences at the University of California, Los Angeles, UCLA
School of Medicine. In addition, he is Director of the UCLA Alzheimer's Disease Center
and the UCLA Neurobehavior and Dementia Research Fellowship.
Dr Cummings earned his medical degree from the University of Washington School of
Medicine in Seattle. He completed an internship at Hartford Hospital in Connecticut
followed by a residency in neurology and a fellowship in behavioral neurology at Boston
University School of Medicine in Massachusetts. He continued his postdoctoral training
at the Institute of Neurology in the National Hospital for Neurological Diseases, London,
England, completing a fellowship in postgraduate studies in neuropathology and neuropsychiatry.
Dr Cummings is the recipient of several honors, including the Alzheimer's Association
Los Angeles Chapter's Research Award and the Irving and Helga Cooper Award for Geriatrics
Research. He has written over 800 articles, chapters, monographs, book reviews, and
abstracts on dementia. In addition, Dr Cummings is associate editor for several publications
and is on the editorial board of various prominent journals, including Neurology and Dementia and
Geriatric Cognitive Disorders. He is also a guest editor, section editor, and journal referee for
numerous books and journals and has been involved in a variety of Alzheimer's disease research
projects. He is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Academy of
Neurology, American Psychiatric Association, American Geriatric Society, and American Neuropsychiatric
Association.
Dr Cummings is a member of several advisory boards and committees, and serves on the National Board of Directors for the Alzheimer's Association, as President of the Alzheimer's Association Chapter of Los Angeles, and as Vice Chair of the International Scientific Advisory Board for the John Douglas French Foundation for Alzheimer's Research.
