Rachelle Smith Doody, MD, PhD, is the Effie Marie Cain Professor in Alzheimer's Disease Research at Baylor College of Medicine, Department of Neurology, Houston, Texas. She is also Director of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr Doody earned her MD at Baylor College of Medicine and her MA and PhD at Rice University in Houston. She served as an intern in medicine at McGill University Faculty of Medicine, the Royal Victoria Hospital, and the Montreal Neurological Hospital and Institute, all in Montreal, Quebec in Canada. She then completed a residency in neurology at Baylor College of Medicine. Dr Doody is the recipient of numerous awards and honors; she is listed as one of the Best Doctors in America: Central Region. Additionally, she received the Barbara Haugh Award for Alzheimer's Research from the Dallas Alzheimer's Association, and the Harry E. Walker Award for Professional Excellence from the Alzheimer's Disease Association, Greater Houston Chapter. She has also been an investigator or principal investigator on more than 30 research projects on dementia and Alzheimer's. Dr Doody's research interests include cognitive aspects of Alzheimer's disease (AD), dementia, and aphasia, as well as AD therapeutics and modeling of progression for clinical prognostication, validation of biologic markers, and enhancing design of AD clinical trials. Dr Doody serves on the editorial and advisory boards for several journals and organizations. She was appointed to the Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders by the Lieutenant Governor of Texas. Dr Doody has authored and co-authored more than 100 journal articles, book chapters, and abstracts on dementia-related topics. In addition, she has given more than 90 lectures on AD and dementia nationally and internationally. Dr Doody is a member of professional organizations such as the American Academy of Neurology and the Behavioral Neurology Society. Dr Doody serves on several committees, including the National Alzheimer's Disease Cooperative Study Steering Committee and the Medical and Scientific Advisory Panel for Alzheimer's Disease International.
