Steven T. DeKosky, MD, is Professor and Chairman of the Department of Neurology at the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, in Pennsylvania.
He also serves as, Professor of Psychiatry and Neurobiology in the School of Medicine, as well as Professor of Human Genetics in the Graduate School of Public Health, all at the University of Pittsburgh.
In addition, he is Director of the Alzheimer's Disease Research Center and the Memory Disorders Clinic at the University of Pittsburgh.
Dr DeKosky is on the medical staff at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center Presbyterian-University Hospital, Western Psychiatric Institute and Clinic, and Montefiore University Hospital, in Pittsburgh. Dr DeKosky earned his medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville. He performed an internship in internal medicine at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland and a residency in neurology at the University of Florida. He then completed a fellowship in neurochemistry at the Clinical Neuroscience Research Center/Department of Neurology at the University of Virginia School of Medicine in Charlottesville.
Dr DeKosky is the recipient of several awards and honors, including the Presidential Award of the American Neurological Association and a Teacher Investigator Development Award from the National Institutes of Health. He has been an investigator on numerous dementia-related research projects and his research interests include clinical disorders of memory and cognitive function: Alzheimer's disease, neurochemistry, genetics, and treatment and central nervous system regeneration and response to injury.
Dr DeKosky has written more than 400 articles, chapters, books, and abstracts on dementia-related topics and is on the editorial board for Archives of Neurology and Annuals of Neurology, among others. He is a reviewer for several other prominent journals including the Journal of the American Medical Association and Neurology.
He is the former chair of the Medical and Scientific Advisory Council of the National Alzhiemer's Association. He has also lectured nationally on dementia and Alzheimer's disease. Dr DeKosky is a member of many professional organizations, including the American Neurological Association and American Society for Neurochemistry. He is also a fellow of the American Academy of Neurology, where he serves as Director of the Dementia Update Course and as Chair of the Dementia Practice Parameters Committee of the Quality Standards Subcommittee. Dr DeKosky is also a member of several advisory boards and committees, and currently serves on the National Board of Directors for the Alzheimer's Association.
